GaGa - Born This Way Music Video!

In case you guys haven't had a chance to check out Lady GaGa's brand new video released today for her
single 'Born This Way', then take a look at this.  As we all suspected, GaGa is keepin it crazy!

A Mish-Mash Post

Hi guys!

So I have been MIA since last week but there was a very good reason for this...hubby headed offshore again this morning so he will be away for another 2 weeks.  I wanted to spend every last minute with him before he flew out again.

This post will be a big mixture of a few different things that have been happening and just random things going around my head.  The last couple of weekends, we have been out partying with our great group of friends.  Now the last thing you want to hear after a drink-fuelled night out is "oh, did you know there's pictures of you on the internet from your night out?".  The first thought that ran through my head was "noooooooooooooooooooooo!".  I grabbed the laptop and hurredly located the event photography websites anticipating the horrific drunken snaps.  But I was pleasantly surprised to see that I look quite normal despite being snapped at about 2am!

Phew! Crisis averted! Although slightly worrying that I didn't even remember getting my picture taken until someone mentioned it to me...

Whenever I go to restaurants, I always end up having to put my evening/clutch bag on the floor.  Sometimes it opens and spills it's contents all over the floor.  Annoying? Yes, very much so!  But I saw something online that would come in really handy the next time I dine out.  A foldable bag table hanger!  They look like this...

How nifty is that! It's just a disc that folds out to reveal a hook to hang your evening bag from.  I'm definitely going to get myself one because I'm sick of leaving my lovely bags on the floor!

On a different matter, I wanted to share my initial thoughts on the Nars Mekong e/s...

It's a rich espresso shade infused with gold.  Now I've heard so many people rave about this product that I couldn't resist getting my hands on it.

However, on first impressions, I'm sorry to say that I'm not that impressed by the consistency of the powder.  It just feels too powdery for my liking and that doesn't bode well on the blending side of things.  I will reserve judgement until I use it on my eyes but I'm a bit tentative at the moment!

What are your thoughts on Nars Mekong?

I hope you guys were all glued to the Oscars as much as I was????

I always love to watch the parade of dresses and check out everyone's makeup!  The most effortless, flawless and most beautiful makeup I saw was on Jennifer Lawrence...

Hair envy alert! Her outfit was VERY simple but she just looked incredible.

And my favourite dress? Well, it has to be Halle Berry in Marchesa! She looked amazing!

What were your favourite makeup looks and dresses?

Urban Decay, Wolverine & A Great Exercise Video

I'm finding it difficult to find time to blog what with Chris being home.  We always try to spend as much time together as possible when he is home like going to the cinema, going out for dinner etc. but I was determined to get a couple of posts done while they are fresh in my mind.  Sometimes I have so many things going round in my head that it's easier to just get it down in writing before I forget!

I'm just going to show you guys some new Urban Decay products that I have been enjoying using recently.

The first one is the Afterglow Glide On Cheek Tint in Score and here's some info on it from the UD website:

"Finally! Sheer, buildable cheek tints that glide on and feel weightless – (never heavy or greasy like your grandma’s cream blush). Our techy-feeling tint applies effortlessly on top of any foundation or bare skin… no pulling or rubbing needed to make it look right. And you’ll never get that powdery, cakey look that sometimes comes from powder blush. The formula is loaded with good-for-you ingredients like Vitamin E, Vitamin C and Vitamin A, so your skin gets nourished and protected. The color goes on more sheer than it looks in the pan, but since its so buildable, YOU control how much you want to blush".

I'm not usually a fan of cream blush products because they always seem to require lots of blending and rubbing and you end up ruining your foundation in the process!  However, this has to be the lightest formula I have ever felt in a cream blush.  As the name suggest, it is more of a cheek tint as the colour is so subtle but it's great that you can build it up to amp up the intensity.  You can see from the pics above that it looks extremely natural on the cheeks (I just swirled my fingertips in the pan, dabbed them on the back of my hand to blend a little, then applied it lightly to my cheeks).  The best things about this blush product are that it gives a fresher look than powder, it doesn't contain any shimmer or glitter and it doesn't feel sticky, greasy or tacky once applied.  I love the pink/peach shade!  It comes in 7 shades: Score, Bang (bright orange), Crush (bright pink), Fetish (rose pink), Greedy (berry), Indecent (peach) and Quickie (light pink).

This Urban Decay UrbanGlow Cream Highlight in Sin kind of reminds me of the Mac Cream Colour Base in Hush but the UD one has a MUCH better formulation! The consistency turns to liquid as soon as your fingers touch the pan which I have never seen before.  Some cream highlighters can be kind of sticky and hard to blend but this product makes it so easy!  I use the same techinque to apply this as I use for the cheek tint in that I pick up some product on my fingertips, blend it in the back of my hand, then tap into my cheekbones.  Here's what the UD website says:

"Our silky cream highlighter gives you the power to guide their eyes to all the right places. Packed with pearl powders, the weightless formula adds luminescence wherever you need it: Craft contours where there were none. Create sculpted cheek and brow bones. Look like you got a full night's sleep with a touch of Urbanglow in the inner corners of your eyes. Hide that hangover with a dewy, youthful glow. The non-greasy formula dries down instantly, and can be worn right on top of makeup".

This ensures that you always get a flawless, even application with no streaks or patchy bits.  This highlighter gives a lovely glow to the cheekbones without being too shimmery.  Sometimes Urban Decay products can be glittery (which I hate) but this one is just perfection.  I love the shimmering champagne colour of the UD sin products and this shade is neutral enough to work on any skin tone.  I like to wear it on my cheekbones, browbones, inner corners of eyes and on my cupid's bow.  It comes in 4 shades: Sin, Brown Sugar (warm taupey brown), Moonshine (iridescent shimmer) and Wicked (radiant pinky shimmer).   Plus I love the skull on the lid of the compact! Simple things....

I love the Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliners so I was excited to see that they had released an eyeshadow counterpart...Glide On 24/7 Shadow Pencils.  There are 12 shades in all:

Barracuda (black with silver sparkle)
Clash (bright turquoise with silver sparkle)
Clinic (emerald green with silver sparkle)
Delinquent (dark purple with bright purple sparkle)
Lit (golden bronze)
Mercury (gunmetal)
Midnight Cowboy (beige with silver sparkle)
Morphine (light purple with pale blue shift)
Narc (mossy green)
Rehab (taupe)
Sin (champagne)
Wasteland (dark brown)

Now eyeshadow pencils can be hit or miss and my favourite was, and still is, the Jemma Kidd Iridescent Eye Silk Crayon in Tigers Eye but these liners come at a close second.  They do have a better colour selection than the Jemma Kidd pencils but they share the same chunky appearance.  Some people don't like that but I personally do because you can use them as an eyeshadow OR as a chunky eyeliner that can be smudged for an undone look.  Here's what the UD website says about them:

"They’re crease-proof, they’re waterproof… it’s the next generation of 24/7 Pencils! Our Shadow Pencils deliver incredible color payout, but feel lightweight. The new fat shape allows you to cover large areas more quickly. Use the thin tip as eyeliner, or the side of the tip as a generous swipe of eyeshadow. Luscious drop-dead shades make you feel every inch the creative type, as you blend shimmer, cream and sparkle finishes".

I love the Barracuda, Midnight Cowboy, Mercury and Rehab shades...they are all gorgeous, smooth and really blendable.  You will see in the pic above that I used Midnight Cowboy all over the lid, then blended Rehab in the outer corners and used Barracuda as a liner on the top lid.  The best thing about these is that they don't move once on and they don't crease either.  Midnight Cowboy powder eyeshadow always means glitter fallout for me but this pencil version means I can enjoy the shade without the irritating glitter all over my cheeks!

For those of you who like regular Wolverine updates...well he still hasn't given up on his attempts to escape his cage!  As you can see from the pic above, he's ALWAYS up to something!  He recently had an escape where he got out of his cage, ate all of the hamster choc drops that we keep under the table, then got back into his cage and tried to pretend everything was normal but the massive ball of molten chocolate in his bed said different!  No doubt there will be more escape attempts/successes so I'm interested to see what he gets up to next!  I love his face in the pic above like he's saying "can I come out today please mummy?".ha ha.

And lastly, please ignore the stupid name of this exercise video...but it's a GREAT workout for your bum and thighs.  I have been doing these exercises for the past 3 weeks and boy do they work!  This guy was on The Real World in the US apparently? Despite that, he is really thorough in his workout videos in explaining how to do everything and he really knows what he's talking about.  I'm seeing really good results from doing these exercises.

Do you have any good recommendations for workout videos on YouTube or good nutrition blogs?

Calculating Your Body Shape

Whilst I was shopping with my mum, I got to thinking about body shapes and which clothes are most flattering on my personal body shape.  I thought I knew what my body shape was.  I thought I was an 'apple' which means you have a full chest, upper back with little waist definition. 'Apples' tend to appear top heavy as well which I certainly am.

Many people often assume an apple body shape means you are VERY curvy or overweight people which is a fallacy.  Notable celebs with the 'apple' body shape are Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Hudson and Elizabeth Hurley who all have this shape but in a "thinner" version.

There are so many different theories nowadays on how many different body types they are.  But here are some celeb examples of some classic body shapes...

Just out of curiosity, I wanted to find out if I was, in fact, an 'apple' and after some searching on google, I found this website...

This website outlines that it's your shape, not your weight, that matters.  A handy calculator tool requests your body measurements and it calculates what body shape you are and what clothes you should be wearing to flatter your figure.  Very handy to make sure you always look your best!

This website doesn't conform to the usual 'fruit' body shapes like pear, apple and banana (I didn't even know there WAS a banana shape until today!ha ha).  This website claims that after a study involving over 6,000 women, they have concluded that the names and definitions for women's body shapes had to be revised into 9 new categories:
  • Straight
  • Pear
  • Spoon
  • Hourglass
  • Top Hourglass
  • Inverted Triangle
  • Oval
  • Diamond
For full explanations/definitions of these body shapes, please click here.  The guide on what you should wear to flatter your body shape is very easy to follow and really concise...

So what did it calculate my body shape as?  Well I came out as an Inverted Triangle (bust large, hips narrow, waist not very well defined).  I would pretty much agree with that description of my body type.  I know I have a short waist and long legs so I always look kind of top heavy.  My waist does go in but it's not as well defined as someone with an hourglass body shape and my stomach is by no means flat!

The main problem I have with dresses is that they will fit me everywhere else, except my bust, which can be a real pain!  If I get the size up then the dress becomes too big for me.  What I really need is a personal tailor to custom-fit all my clothes for me.  If only I had the cash to do that!

Do you know what your body type is?  Do you know of any handy websites regarding this subject?  Do you have problems getting clothes to fit you?

FOTD Using Accessorize Makeup & OOTD

Remember I promised to do a FOTD using some of the Accessorize makeup items I showed you in this post? Well I finally got round to doing it!

I decided to get all Spring-ified and do pretty pink cheeks with gold highlights and a fresh, bright pale turquoise eye.  Here are the products I used to create this look:

FACE

Jemma Kidd Pro Skin Rescue Bio Complex Veil (as a base)
Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation
Bobbi Brown Corrector (Light to Medium Bisque)
Estee Lauder Maximum Cover Foundation (used as concealer)
Clinique Redness Solutions Instant Relief Pressed Powder
Korres Monoi Oil Bronzing Powder (Sunglow Warm)
Sleek Contour Kit (Light)
Accessorize Merged Baked Blusher in Starlet
Topshop Highlighter in Sunbeam

EYES

Benefit Brows a-go-go kit
Estee Lauder Clear Brow Gel
Mac Paint Pot in Soft Ocre
Accessorize e/s in Mermaid (all over lid)

(The Accessorize Mermaid e/s reminded a bit of Mac Pigment in Mutiny which I also have so I wanted to do a comparison swatch below.  The accessorize e/s is slightly more green but it actually has better pigmentation and sheen!).

New CID Cosmetics Eyes Lips Face Palette (ivory shade on browbone and inner corner, lightest taupe shade in crease, darkest taupe along lashline to tidy up eyeliner)
Jemma Kidd Iridescent Eye Silk Crayon in Tigers Eye
Loreal Studio Secrets Lash Primer
Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Mascara

LIPS

Korres Jasmine Lip Butter

Because I used the vibrant turquoise eyeshadow, I just wanted to keep the lips toned down and simple so my trusty Korres Lip Butter did the trick.

Now onto a quick Oufit Of The Day (you'll have to excuse my zombie-like expression in the first pic!ha ha) .  This is one of the dresses Maddie got me when I was over in Ireland.  It's the perfect fit for me and I think it makes the most of my waist, slims down my arms and is a great length for my legs.  The thing I love about this dress is that you can dress it down for daytime with black tights but if you want to glam it up with a retro vibe for night time, then you can team with soft, wavy hair, a red lip and platform shoes.

Dress: A Wear
Shoe Boots: Next

Coat: New Look
Bag: Bought it on holiday

The retro tea dresses that are around at the moment really flatter my figure and the pretty floral prints make me more in the mood for Spring/Summer.  You do have to be careful what you wear with them though or they could look a bit mumsy!  You can keep it modern by wearing them with a tougher shoe boot or adding a statement belt.

Review of Rodial Crash Diet Kit

So I have finally finished the Rodial Crash Diet Kit and, as promised, here are my thoughts on it. As I said in my previous post, this product’s name is misleading as there is no dieting required. The premise behind this kit is to speed up your metabolism, burn fat faster and eliminate any water retention making you feel bloated. This is by NO means a long term solution to feeling and looking slim. However, this kit is especially handy if you have a big event coming up…say a wedding or a prom or even if you just want to look great on the beach on holiday.

Rodial say “Overindulged this holiday season? Need to shift some weight in a hurry? Desperate to squeeze into a dress for that special occasion? Rodial is pleased to introduce the revolutionary crash diet™ KIT: three slimming products in a convenient boxed set to help you achieve your weight-loss goals!”. I do think that Rodial need to rethink the name of the product though as it sends out the wrong message.

I have been taking these supplements for 2 weeks now which consisted of a protein shake, a fat burning drink and a topical body gel. The plan instructs you to take/apply each part of the kit every day for the 2 weeks.

So the burning question is…did it work?...Well, to show whether it DID work, I’ll give you a breakdown of my stats at the start and finish of the weightloss experiment:

START

Size: 12
Height: 5’7 (obviously this won’t change! I just wanted to give you an idea versus my weight)
Weight: 11st 1lbs
Measurements: 34-31-38
Fat Percentage: 27.9% (normal female range is 21-33%)
Water Percentage: 51.0%

FINISH

Size: 12
Weight: 10st 10lbs
Measurements: 34-30-37
Fat Percentage: 26.8% (normal female range is 21-33%)
Water Percentage: 49.2%

THE RESULTS

• No change in dress size
• Loss of 5lbs
• Loss of 1 inch on hips
• Loss of 1 inch on waist
• Fat Percentage dropped by 1.1%
• Water Percentage dropped by 1.8%
Now all that is very well and good but you have to remember that I go to the gym 5 times a week so I would most likely have continued to lose weight regardless. I didn’t drop any dress sizes as claimed in the product blurb. However, my fat percentage did drop a lot quicker than it normally does (I measure it with body fat scales every week). My water percentage also decreased significantly whereas it had always been around the 50-51% mark previously.
So we can deduce from these results that the energy/fat burning drink contained in the kit obviously DID help to achieve the desired result. I applied the body gel every night which claims to help aid drainage of water from the body. I am not totally convinced by this gel, it has to be said. Whether the protein shake worked, well I can’t say. My muscle percentage has increased but I have been doing weights at the gym so that may happen naturally anyway. So that aspect of the kit is inconclusive in my little test.
So what is my final conclusion on the Rodial Crash Diet Kit?
Well, in my opinion, the most useful part of the kit was the fat burning energy drink you take before your gym work out. It gave me LOADS of energy and helped me do that bit extra in my workout. It quite obviously helped me to lose more fat than I normally would in a 2 week period and I felt really slim with no sign of water retention or that bloated feeling. That makes a huge difference to how you feel in general. So I would recommend this part of the kit which you can buy separately if you wish. The Rodial website says you can take 2 a day for a week for ‘express’ results.
However, I do think the whole kit is a hefty price to pay unless you have something REALLY special coming up. For example, I totally would have invested in this kit to take just before my wedding but it’s not something I would just buy on a whim for no reason.  The only part of the kit I could whole heartedly recommend are the energy drink sachets.
If you want long term weight-loss results then the best thing I can advise is a balanced, healthy diet and regular exercise. Boring, I know but it’s the most full proof plan of all!

Good Times/Bad Times

1) Myself and Chris are planning to go on a long weekend, European city break in March and we are still deciding where to go.  We have both been to Paris, Barcelona and Rome before so they are out.  I have been to Venice and I don't think it's our kind of place really.

I did think that Berlin might be a cool place to go though and there's apparently loads to do.  I have a few friends that have raved about it after visiting recently.  I really like German culture and I still remember alot of the language from school.  We both like to be active and aren't interested in sitting around all day.  Does anyone have any suggestions of great places to visit?

2) As you will know from my recent posts, I have FINALLY mastered false lashes.  It took me ages to work out that I just can't wear full lashes.  My eyes are much more suited to individual, half or corner lashes because anything near the inner corner of my eyes just impedes my vision, feels uncomfortable and irritates my eyes.  I much prefer the more natural length falsies because they just add the right amount of volume and length without looking too heavy.  I want my eyes to look fresh and wide awake and I feel that the really heavy false lashes just make you look tired.

3) I have been putting off tidying up my wardrobe for absolutely ages in the vain hope that I would open it one day and the fairies had sorted it all for me.  That never happened.  So I got some bin liners and sorted through everything in there.  I had to be quite ruthless about the whole thing and although I had old favourites in there, I had to accept that some of them were well past their best.  Some clothing just has sentimental value to it so it makes it hard to throw it away!  BUT after a couple of hours of being knee-deep in clothes, shoes and bags, I finally finished.

Chris is going to build me proper wardrobe storage so I am really excited about that!  I'm hoping to get multi-box style shoe storage like the pic above....heaven!  Stay tuned for before and after pics!

1) Chris has been offshore for the past 14 days and he won't be back until Friday.  He was supposed to come home sooner but the bad weather offshore has meant that all helicopter flights have been put on hold.  It can be really hard being apart for so long because he's my best friend.  I always miss the little things like having our little chat about the day before we go to sleep at night or sitting having dinner together and chatting about what's on TV.  I know that Chris hates being away but at least it's not forever...just until the end of May.

2) I was really saddened to find out that The Gloss Goss blog is no more.  Tali decided to delete her beauty blog and also her fashion blog, Glossy's Wardrobe.  I think there will be ALOT of people who will really miss her posts and hearing about her life in general.  Her blog was my favourite to read because we like alot of the same things and I discovered alot of my favourite products through reading her blog.  I really hope Tali starts up her blog again because it won't be the same without her!

Liparazzi's Favourites: Korres

So it's time again for another one of my favourites posts and this time it's Korres!

I blab on about alot of Korres products on my blog and I love the fact that they use natural and certified organic ingredients in their products.  It's a Greek company that started in 1996 and their product range features skin care, hair care, makeup and homeopathy.  So if you've never tried anything from the brand before, here's a rundown of my top picks...

I have found that the Korres Wild Rose Mask is the perfect mixing medium for my aspirin mask!  I just use half a teaspoon of the mask and mix it with 3 crushed (uncoated) aspirin tablets.  Clearer AND brightened skin in one go? Yes please!  The mask is an opaque white colour and dries on the skin after about 10 minutes.  It leaves my skin feeling refreshed, smooth and silky soft.

I also love the Korres Olive and Rye Eye Cream because I used to get tiny patches of Psoriasis on my eye lids and on the skin surrounding my eye.  This eye cream was the ONLY product that got rid of the dry skin on this delicate area and it keeps it at bay now.  The eye cream seems quite thick but it never makes my eyes feel puffy or heavy.  It lasts for ages because a little goes a long way.

I really like the Korres Wild Rose Foundation for summer days because it feels lighter on my skin than my usual EL Double Wear.  It's a great foundation for those days when your skin is looking really good and clear and you feel confident enough to go with less coverage.  It instantly brightens the tone of my skin and makes me look fresh and revived.  The Korres Ginger and Vitamins Foundation is a low to medium coverage product and is great for holidays when you know you are just heading to the beach.  It treats your skin as you wear it and if you're a fan of tinted moisturisers or VERY light foundations, then this product is for you.  I'm always more confident about my skin when I have a tan so this is a summer/holiday product only for me.

Apologies for the battered case of my Korres Wild Rose Compact Powder but I take it EVERYWHERE with me.  It's constantly in my bag when I go out because it's the perfect lightweight powder to cover up shine without looking cakey or heavy.  It looks best applied with a fluffy powder brush and keeps my skin looking flawless all day long.

Whenever I want to use a bronzer with a slight shimmer in it, this is the bronzer I reach for.  I have the Sunglow Warm shade and as you can see from the swatch, it's really subtle on the skin!  It blends so beautifully into my skin and never streaks or looks patchy.  I put this down to the Monoi Oil formula which moisturises the skin and so doesn't cling to any dry patches.  It gives me a really natural, radiant glow and as it has very subtle shimmer in it, I prefer to wear it at night.  For the perfect daytime bronzer, I highly recommend Dior Matte Sunshine Bronzing Powder.

The Korres blushes in Pink & Peach are really great cheek products for summer because they add a gorgeous subtle flush of colour to your face.  The Peach shade has more shimmer in it so it can double as a highlighter too.  These are gorgeous Spring shades that add a real freshness to your skin, whilst still looking natural.  They blend like a dream and last all day long.

Onto my much loved Korres Lip Butters! I currently have four shades as shown above.  Guava and Jasmine are my go-to daytime lip moisturisers whilst Mango and Pomegranate are gorgeous bright shades for night time.  The best thing about the brighter shades are that they are a great way to wear vivid colour whilst keeping your lips glossy and silky soft.  Perfect!  I apply the Guava one every night before bed to keep my lips in tip top shape.  Love these so much!

I received an email today from Rouge Bunny Rouge showcasing the Isola Bella look and I have to say I think it's unbelievably pretty!...

Sometimes the most lovely looks are those which are simplistic and fresh!
