Reiss gorgeousness and clothes ramble

I have really started to get into Reiss and the overall style of their range. However, I hate the fact that we don't have Reiss in Aberdeen so I have to admire their clothes from afar...I did treat myself to some items from their sale on the website...so stay tuned for an update on that in the next few days. I am not a fan of buying online as you never know if something is going to fit! I have had a peek at the brand spanking new collection and I want almost everything! I love the way they have styled their new ads...I would describe it as understated, sophisticated, 'grown up' glamour at it's best. I even love the makeup concepts...it's all smokey eyes, nude lips and laid back messy hair...

I ADORE their accessories and this naval inspired rope bangle caught my eye. I love the little details like the Reiss text on the rivets...

They also do really pretty bags that have some unique details. I thought bag was quite an unusual colour, almost like a duck egg blue and I love the gold chain tassle. It's just adorable!...

I'm totally coveting this weave belt as well...it would be perfect to add a bit of interest to a plain dress...

I have been drooling over their 'Lookbook' online and these are some of my favourite outfits that are, in my humble opinion, achingly stylish and chic and perfect for the summer months ahead...

I am the type of girl who goes on a shopping trip looking for sensible work clothes and I end up coming back with skyscraper heels and beaded dresses...why can't I stick to my initial shopping game plan! I just get sidetracked when I see beautiful clothes and they always tend to be the type of clothes you would wear on a big night out. I start justifying the purchases to myself saying things in my head like "it's an investment", "these reflect my personality better" and "work clothes shopping is boring anyway". I definitely have my eye on this fringed 'Bali' dress from Monsoon....

I think this could totally be tranformed from a summer daytime look with flat gladiator style sandals to a more glamourous night time outfit. These Dune shoes would be perfect to transform this dress into a kick ass outfit...

Dune have to be my favourite place to shop for gorgeous shoes. Whilst surfing the net, once again looking for sensible boots, my peepers locked on these amazing suede and silver coloured sandals on the Dune website. I feel I must have them! I think my life may actually depend on it!...ok, SLIGHT exaggeration but just check out these babies...

So ladies...what is your favourite place to shop at the moment? Have you got any 'must have' items on your clothes lust list? How do you justify purchases to yourself?!

And one last thing...am I the only person who has a list/file on their computer of things they want to buy in the next few months like makeup, shoes etc...please don't let me be the only one...I don't want to be a saddo on my own!

Review of Revlon Photoready Foundation

I have wanted to try this foundation for ages, given that I'm a steadfast fan of Colorstay...not everyone's cup of tea but in my eyes, it's my go-to foundation for a flawless, long lasting finish. There has been a big buzz around this new foundation in the blogging world which basically is said to deliver the same effect as MUFE HD. The first thing that caught my eye was that Revlon have finally decided to come to their senses and have included a pump dispenser for this product. Hurrah! This now means that there's less mess and less wastage of product.
I chose the Cool Beige shade which is a good match for my skin when I have a slight tan. The consistency of this foundation is a touch lighter than Colorstay and this transfers well to the skin...it feels very natural once applied so when you touch your face, it doesn't feel like you're wearing any foundation at all!
Now I know that alot of people have been put off by the 'shimmer' in this foundation (this is what actually creates the soft focus effect when you are being photographed hence the name of the product). I'm guessing it works by blurring any fine lines/blemishes.
I was a bit worried when I heard people mention the 'Cullen' effect! I really didn't want to look overly shimmery in the harsh light of day...but I was pleasantly surprised that the so-called shimmer wasn't that noticeable. Sure if you look REALLY closely in the mirror then you can kind of see it, but it doesn't look ridiculous. If you stand just a few inches away from a mirror in natural light then you don't even see it.

I took this picture wearing the foundation with just a slight dusting of MAC MSF Natural. I took the pic with a flash to try and demonstrate how the foundation photographs in different conditions....
I was REALLY happy with the medium coverage it gave me and how light it felt, whilst giving my skin a flawless finish. It lasts all day and as long as you set it with a good powder then you shouldn't get too shiny. I often get a very shiny T-Zone which is always a pain but I was delighted with how natural my skin looked. It also gave my skin a nice, healthy radiance. This foundation is definitely easier to apply and blend than Colorstay.
I took the next pic in direct sunlight...
So in conclusion, I really like this foundation and I think I now prefer it to Colorstay! I will be using this as my everyday foundation from now on. I know that some people would hate the shimmer in this as some people prefer a fully matte look. So ultimately, this foundation is like the makeup equivalent of marmite...you're either going to love it or hate it! I personally think it's a fantastic drugstore/pharmacy foundation that's affordable, enjoyable to use and it makes my skin look great. It also offers a cheaper alternative to the likes of Nars Sheer Glow.

I know it's Winter but...I love fake tan!

I seem to be struggling to get back into normality this week after being away in Norway. You know that feeling when you’re always chasing your tail and not making any progress? Roll on the weekend! I’m in need of a good lie in I think.

Now I know it’s still winter and a lot of people are embracing the pale look which is great but unfortunately, I always seem to look a whole lot better with a slight tan. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it! Whenever I’m feeling too pasty and my skin needs a bit of a lift, I always find that applying a bit of fake tan makes me look and feel so much more polished and healthy. I guess it really depends on your colouring but because I have redness in my cheeks and around my nose, I find that when I have a little bit of a tan, my complexion evens out and I don’t need as much foundation. That’s the main reason why I am addicted to the stuff. I have tried many over the years so I definitely know how to avoid the Oompah Loompah look!

As I had mentioned in a previous post, I have been testing out different self tans recently to find the perfect product to use for my wedding day. So far I have used the following products...individual reviews will follow in the coming days:

Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Golden Perfection Self Tanning Milk
Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Radiant Perfection Firming Body Creme

Clinique Self Sun Body Tinted Lotion (Light/Medium)
Clinique Self Sun Body Daily Moisturiser (Light/Medium)

Vichy Lipidose Nutri Sun

He-Shi Day To Day Gradual Tan
I wanted to try out gradual self tans as well as the ‘one time’ products that give you a lot of colour in one go. My logic was that I could control the colour more if I used a product over a longer period of time. Although, as you will all be aware, gradual tans can go patchy quite easily especially in areas like elbows, knees and under the arms. If you are using any type of fake tan (especially gradual ones) then it’s a good idea to get a good exfoliating product for your body.

That leads me onto a quick rave I wanted to share with you with regards to Loreal Exfotonic. I used to use this product years and years ago and I remember being mega impressed by it back then. But for some reason, I stopped using it…either I was hit by the beauty junkie curse of always being curious of what else is out there or it became harder to get hold of. I think it was maybe the latter as I can remember the product used to be sold in big tubs and then it seemed to disappear for a while (don’t you just HATE it when they do that with your favourite products!).
I was interested to see if they had kept the same formula as I often find that when brands repackage products, they claim it’s a ‘new improved formula’ and more often than not, it ends up being rubbish (yes, I’m talking to you, Herbal Essences!). However, Loreal didn’t disappoint with this one and it’s the same amazing formula as before. Now I would say that this exfoliator is kind of ‘scratchy’ but that’s what I like about it. I have tried other ones that contain salt or sugar and it all seems to disintegrate before I get a chance to exfoliate anything! This exfoliator really scrubs the skin and removes any rough or dry skin but I have never found that it makes it red or sensitive. I would never use this product on my face though as the skin is too delicate. It contains AHA’s which really smooth the skin and make it soooo soft. My skin felt amazing after using this and now I’m well and truly hooked on it! Another thing is that I love the smell…it’s hard to describe…it almost reminds me of a very subtle aftershave scent...a woody musk smell…sounds weird but it smells gorgeous! I am definitely going to buy a few back up’s when I’m at Boots at the weekend because this exfoliator is a must have for my wedding day skin prep regime!
A fantastic exfoliator for the face that I have just discovered is Oskia Micro Exfoliator. This is a relatively new English brand that have some amazing products. I love this face exfoliator because it has tons of small particles that feel so invigorating and they smooth the skin in a really gentle but effective way. The consistency is like a super thick paste and you don’t need a lot to cover the whole face. I just apply it in gentle circular movements, avoiding my eye area and massage it in for a couple of minutes. I have been using this for the past couple of weeks, together with the Clinique Comfort on Call moisturiser and my skin feels amazing.
Another of the Oskia products I really like is the Eye Wonder serum. This stuff feels like it’s going to last forever. It’s a watery gel consistency and you only need a teensy amount to cover the eye area. It’s really refreshing to use and I’ve noticed that it has cleared up some dry skin that I had right under my right eye. It contains……. This product helps to de-puff my eye area although I’m not sure it does anything for my under eye circles. Despite that, it’s really pleasant to use and I love that it’s going to last me for months and months.
Another product I have found that is great if you have forgotten to tan your legs before a special occasion is the St Tropez Wash Off range. The product I love is the………. It’s basically an instant tan gel formula that adds a really natural looking colour to your legs. Be warned though, it’s best to wear some gloves to apply this as it can stain your hands! (never a good look). I think everyone has spent a day trying to keep the palms of their hands facing downwards at all times after a silly self tanning mistake. I know I have! This product dries really quickly and doesn’t leave any sticky feeling at all which means you don’t have to worry about it rubbing off on your clothes. I also really like the Rimmel wash off instant tan products…they are a great budget alternative! I also love that they offer a shimmer version or matte version depending on your preference.

Obviously I won’t be touching the stuff for my wedding day though as the last thing I want is marks on my ivory dress!

So what are your fail safe self tanning products? What exfoliators do you love to prep your skin with?

The Cream That Saved My Skin

I was really worried about exposing my skin to the -2oC temperatures in Norway at the weekend during my ski trip and I knew I would have to take some serious steps to make sure that my dry skin didn't go bananas! I have suffered from Psoriasis for a few years now and I was scared that I might get an outbreak on my face. It often takes months to heal so you can see why I had to really make sure that I was protecting my skin from bitterly cold winds on the slopes.

Meet my new skin hero....
This was recommended for me as a cream that would intensively moisturise and protect my sensitive skin. And boy did it live up to my expectations! I applied this day and night when I was in Norway. The consistency is like butter, thick and indulgent. But when you apply it to the skin it sinks in really easily and doesn't leave a greasy film like some intensive moisturisers do. Clinique say the following about this cream "Relief in a world of irritants. Tested by a leading dermatologist who specializes in skin allergies on dry, sensitive and reactive skins. With the best barrier restoratives and skin comforters from nature and science to quiet reactivity, it's a world of comfort. Make sure it's on hand".
"Ideal for dry, cracked, easily irritated skins and those bothered by wind and extreme cold. Appropriate for people with eczema or sensitive skin". I not only used this cream on my face, but on my hands too and it really helped to keep my hands supple and soft. I had some dry skin on and around my nose and after two nights of using this cream, they were completely smooth even in the freezing temperatures of Norway! This product is definitely a must have if you have eczema or Psoriasis. It's so hard to find creams that deliver this kind of moisture without a greasy or oily feeling.
I am going to continue to use this cream to fend off the winter weather. I had never really been that keen on Clinique skin care before as I couldn't find anything that suited my skin but this cream has definitely addressed all my skin woes. Love it!

Good Times/Bad Times

GOOD TIMES

1) I’m going skiing in Norway on Thursday and I can’t wait! I still have some bits and bobs to pick up before I go but I’m pretty organised so far. I have also bought some mega strong SPF as the last thing I want is to get burnt on the slopes…the intensity of the sun is increased by 80% at that altitude so you have to be very careful! I will be packing intensive moisturiser as well to ward off any dry skin. Wish me luck! (just don’t say “break a leg”!).
2) I handed in my notice at work on Monday and I’m really excited about a fresh new start. It feels amazingly empowering when you take charge of your life! I’m feeling so positive about meeting new people and taking on some new challenges…I will update you guys more on this soon…
3) My wedding dress wasn’t supposed to be ready until April but I got a call last week saying it had arrived at the bridal shop! I was squealing with excitement…I phoned my mum and she squealed EVEN louder!ha ha. I tried the dress on today and it’s just beautiful and so ‘me’. It’s everything I imagined it to be and I can’t wait to wear it! It’s perfect.
4) Myself and Chris have been desperate to get a pet for ages and since we live in a city centre apartment and work all day, we can’t have a dog or a cat. We have both always had pets and it feels weird not having an animal around the place…if that makes sense??? Anyways, Chris suggested we get a hamster! At first I thought, no…they are for kids aren’t they? (I had one when I was about 11 or 12 and loved it). But I have slowly been coming around to the idea when I thought about how cute they are and how entertaining they can be. To cut a long story short, we are going to get a hamster when we get back from Norway next week. Expect pics next week!
5) It’s ALMOST time for the release of ‘Shutter Island’, the new movie by Martin Scorsese, starring Leonardo Di Caprio (UK release date is 12th March). I have heard so much about this film and I hope it lives up to my expectations. I am a huge Scorsese fan (ok, I’m a big Leo fan too!). I have been so impressed with the way Leonardo has really grown into a mature and multi-faceted actor. I used to think he was just a pretty boy but he has really proven himself in films like Blood Diamond, The Aviator and The Departed.

BAD TIMES

1) I don’t know what it is, but lately I have had some weird, random people trying to add me as a friend on Facebook…for example, one guy sent me a message saying “Hi Laura x”, I asked him if I knew him and he said “Yeah, kinda, we go to the same gym”…seriously…why would you do that???? I now feel VERY uncomfortable at the gym!
2) I have been so busy lately that I’m finding it really difficult to fit in my usual 5 trips to the gym every week. Because of this, my weight has begun to plateau…I have stayed the same weight for the past 3 weeks…which is very annoying! I need to get myself back on track again. I try not to get too hung up on the number on the scales because I’m constantly putting on muscle with my gym workouts. I have yet to measure myself so maybe I have made some progress with toning…

Estee Lauder Pure Colour Metallic and Matte e/s

I was soooo excited when I saw that Estee Lauder were bringing out more eyeshadows, namely metallic and matte ones! I looove metallic eyeshadows...actually, just anything metallic! Pictured below are Mink, Nautical Matte, Amber Metallic, Amethyst, Lagoon and Charcoal Metallic. Here's what they look like in the pan...
They look lovely don't they? Well, I'm sorry to say that I wasn't blown away by them. They are nice but I have other eyeshadows with better pigmentation and as these cost £14.50 each, I think that's alot for a product that just 'nice'. I do like the matte colours (Mink & Nautical Matte) since I don't own any matte shades and they look sophisticated for daytime wear. But overall, apart from the fact that the formula is good, I have to say that I just think they're ok. Here's the swatches...
So have you guys tried these eyeshadows out yet? What did you think?
